  • 100g white bread flour
  • 7g instant dried yeast
  • 1 tbsp black treacle
  • oil, for greasing
  • 50g melted butter
  • 50g mixed seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, poppy and linseeds) optional
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Warm water

Below is a simple recipe for the most hearty pan integral. The recipe is very simple and you can prepare it in no time. You can as well watch the video that follows later for a step-by-step preparation. This video will guide you to a delicious meal.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine both wholemeal and white bread flours, yeast, and 1 teaspoon fine salt. Combine the treacle and 250ml warm water in a mixing bowl and stir well. To form a slightly sticky dough, stir in the flour. If more water is needed, splash it in 1 tbsp at a time.
  2. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface (or in a tabletop mixer for 5-7 mins). When the dough is done, it should be smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled mixing basin, flip it over to coat it in oil, and cover with oiled cling film. Place in a warm location until it has doubled in size. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat the loaf tin in oil.
  3. Once the dough has doubled in size, knead it again for 3-5 minutes to remove any air bubbles; add the majority of the seeds and mix them into the dough as you knead. Form the dough into an oval about the same size as your muffin tin. Place in the tin and cover with oiled cling film to prove for 30-45 minutes, or until nearly doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit/180 degrees Fahrenheit fan/gas 6.
  4. To check if the loaf has had enough proving time, gently press a finger into it (see tip). When the bread is done, brush the top with the egg yolk and scatter the remaining seeds on top.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown — the bottom of the loaf should sound hollow when you tip it out of the tin. Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes on a wire rack before slicing.
